Closures on SR-22 for Phase 2 of Curb-Ramp Upgrades

LONG BEACH — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that phase 1 of sidewalk curb-ramp upgrades to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), on SR-22 (7th Street) is completed. Crews will be moving onto phase 2, the second round of curb-ramp upgrades will begin Monday, September 18.

The following sidewalks and lanes will remain closed while multiple crews work in the area:

  • September 18 through September 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:

-       Sidewalk at intersection of Margo Avenue and 7th Street

-       Sidewalk at intersection of Pepper Tree Lane and 7Th Street

-       #3 lane (outer lane) on both directions of SR-22 between Margo Avenue and Pepper Tree lane

 

  • September 22 through September 24 beginning at 11 p.m., for an extended closure:

-       Sidewalk at intersection of Bellflower Boulevard and 7th Street

-       Sidewalk at intersection of Chanel Drive and 7th Street

-       #3 lane on both directions of SR-22 between PCH and Bellflower Boulevard

*NOTE: Both sidewalks and lanes will close from Friday at 11 p.m. and remain in effect through Sunday morning at 8 a.m.

 

  • September 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

-       Sidewalk at intersection of Pepper Tree Lane and 7th Street

-       Sidewalk at intersection of Margo Avenue and 7th Street

-       #3 lane on both directions of SR-22 between Margo Avenue and Pepper Tree Lane

 

Detours will be provided for pedestrians during sidewalk closures. Motorists may experience delays and are encouraged to plan ahead. For real time freeway traffic information, please visit the Caltrans Quickmap: http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

Closures are part of a $1.2 million pavement rehabilitation project on SR-22, between PCH (SR-1)  and the San Gabriel River Bridge. All American Asphalt is the contractor on this project, it is expected to be completed in winter 2018. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.”
